ALL ACCESS told you about the seismic radio activity in SEATTLE YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 12/4), which involved the near simultaneous flips out of -- and, into -- Country, starting with ENTERCOM Country KMPS going Soft AC as "94.1 THE SOUND," a move which ended two weeks of CHRISTMAS music stunting. Within an hour or so, HUBBARD Rock KVRQ acted quickly, becoming "COUNTRY 98.9."
"We at HUBBARD RADIO/SEATTLE are looking forward to winning the Country war in SEATTLE," said HUBBARD VP/Market Mgr. MARC KAYE in a statement released late MONDAY (12/4). "With a live and local HUBBARD RADIO mantra, it’s going to be a whole lot of fun building one of AMERICA's great Country radio stations. Now, we are ramping up on staff hires, including a Program Director.” As we reported MONDAY, HUBBARD Country WIL/ST. LOUIS PD SCOTT RODDY and PATTI MARSHALL, OM at Country sister WUBE, helped with masterminding the launch. Listen to KVRQ here. Highly respected talent coach STEVE REYNOLDS is also involved, heading the company's search for a morning show on KVRQ; send your best stuff to REYNOLDS here.
Back at KMPS, PD KENNY JAY is still on the job -- for now -- telling ALL ACCESS, "If you need some AMBROSIA in your life, I'm your guy." We assume JAY was referring to AMBROSIA, the AMERICAN Soft Rock band, and not the similarly-named nectar of the gods. Reach JAY here. We also know that KMPS morning teamers SETH HUGHES and BRYNN "CAT" DUBOIS have left the building, ending a two-and-half year run that began in 2015 (NET NEWS 6/22/15). Additionally, KMPS midday personality DEANNA LEE is now handling that shift on ENTERCOM Country clustermate KKWF (THE WOLF). It's a return to THE WOLF for LEE, who originally joined the station in 2010 (NET NEWS 11/5/10), then later joined the KMPS airstaff in 2014 (NET NEWS 4/4/14). This story is still developing; stay with ALL ACCESS for updates.
