WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY has "temporarily reassigned" noncommercial Variety WWVU (U92)/MORGANTOWN, WV GM MATTHEW FOUTY after student station workers accused him of sexual harassment, reports the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. The station was briefly taken off the air last THURSDAY (12/7) due to a strike over the issue (NET NEWS 12/8) and has been running on automation since then.
The reassignment was announced by Dean of Students COREY FARRIS minutes before student staffers at the station were to hold a press conference MONDAY (12/11). Former GM KIM HARRISON is being assigned to return to serve as Interim GM. Five current and former student employees have alleged that FOUTY made "inappropriate comments of a sexual nature," including on the air, and have complained to the school's Title IX office; FOUTY has denied the allegations.
