LOCAL MEDIA OF SAN DIEGO Top 40 XHTZ (Z90)/SAN DIEGO welcomed home the winners of its EPIC 48.3.0 promotion from SOUTH AMERICA. The promotion was based on three key rules: Be willing to go ANYWHERE; Be willing to do ANYTHING; Be willing to leave at a MOMENT'S NOTICE. -- promising the most EPIC 48 hours of your life.
The adventure started last FRIDAY morning (12/15), just before sunrise when Z90 morning show host RICK MORTON and a caravan of staffers and videographers arrived at the home of listener RYAN McCULLOCH to declare him the winner. RYAN and his girlfriend LAUREN JOHNSTON were immediately loaded into a MERCEDES BENZ to begin an EPIC journey of "once-in-a-lifetime experiences."
The two were immediately taken to TIJUANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, then departed first class to MEXICO CITY, where they were whisked off to the TEOTIHUACAN pyramids, then to BUENOS AIRES, checking in to their six-story, private mansion in the heart of the historic SAN TELMO district.
Some other highlights of the weekend included being front row at BUE FESTIVAL to see the GORILLAZ, private tango lessons with two of BUENOS AIRES’ most famous dancers in their private studio, guided visits to the markets, museums and barrios of the city and dining in private rooms of the most chic restaurants in the country.
Everything during the weekend was executed with Z90’s own private guides, chauffeurs, cars and handlers — and having a staff (including Z90 Dir./Programming R DUB!) follow them through every EPIC hour, on hand for their every request.
Said R DUB!, “EPIC 48 is without a doubt the biggest radio promotion in the world… ever. There’s simply not a bigger radio contest anywhere. And we were so delighted that RYAN and LAURA had an EPIC time, and that we were able to take all of our listeners along for the ride via our social media channels and live broadcast check-ins throughout the weekend.”
After over 48 hours and traveling over 12,000 miles, the winners returned to SAN DIEGO yesterday to share the story of their EPIC 48 3.0 adventure.
Said McCULLOCH, “It was amazing how many things LAUREN and I were able to cross off our bucket list in 48 hours! Flying first class, seeing the pyramids, learning to tango, and visiting SOUTH AMERICA were just a handful of things we did this weekend that we’ve always only dreamed of doing! Thanks so much to Z90; this was absolutely life changing.”
Z90's RICK MORTON added, “What a thrill to take listeners halfway around the world to experience a brand-new culture in ultimate luxury and get them back on their doorstep by MONDAY morning. Truly EPIC!”
Past EPIC 48 weekends have included skydiving, shopping for diamonds, getting picked up by helicopter from an aircraft carrier, a private studio session with DJ MUSTARD, being served dinner by the winner of TV's "Chopped" in a MALIBU seaside beach house, flying in a private jet, being given a $1,000 chip by PITBULL in LAS VEGAS and hanging out with LADY GAGA backstage after her SUPER BOWL performance, among others.
