Former TUCSON radio personality MARGIE RYE has passed away at 54, reports the ARIZONA DAILY STAR. RYE (MARGIE WRYE CLEMENT) died DECEMBER 14th; her husband told the paper that the cause of death was complications of alcoholism.
RYE, an ALABAMA native who moved with her family to BISBEE, AZ in 1972, was the daughter of WILLIAM WRYE, who built KBAZ (later KZMK and now KWCD)/BISBEE in 1979 but died of an aneurysm before he could sign it on; She worked at the station for a year under new owners, then at KWFM/TUCSON while attending the UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA, and was given a weekend shift on KWFM, then joined Rock KLPX, where she hosted for several years (1984-87, 1988-91, 2003-09). She also worked at KBPI/DENVER (1984) and KUPD/PHOENIX (1987-88) and provided voice work for KVOA-TV/TUCSON.
A funeral will be held on JANUARY 5th at BRINGS FUNERAL HOME in TUCSON, with visitation 1-2p (MT) and a service at 2p, followed by a reception at MACYAOS next door.
