RYEN RUSSILLO is exiting ESPN RADIO, the network announced TODAY (12/20). RUSSILLO, the network's 1-4p (ET) weekday host, will do his last show on DECEMBER 22nd but will continue to host a weekly podcast through SUMMER 2018.
ESPN AUDIO SVP TRAUG KELLER said, "While we extended an attractive offer for RYEN to continue with ESPN, he has decided to pursue other opportunities when his contract expires next year. His final show on ESPN RADIO will be DEC. 22, though he will host a weekly podcast through next SUMMER. RYEN has been a signature voice for ESPN AUDIO for more than a decade, also contributing to other ESPN platforms with his work on the NBA, college football and more. I respect his decision and we wish him continued success."
RUSSILLO added, "This was a really tough decision. ESPN RADIO means a lot to me. Even though I won't be sitting in a studio every day like I have for the last eight plus years, I'm looking forward to working on a podcast and still providing content for the company."
On WEDNESDAY's show, RUSSILLO said that ESPN had offered him the same money he was making on the 1-4p show for the pending move to afternoons with WILL CAIN, and was adding TV and other duties that would result in 10 hour work days, which he declined to do, although he characterized the parting as "super-amicable."
His former radio co-host SCOTT VAN PELT weighed in on Twitter:
A tremendous talent and better friend. I will have his back wherever, whenever, forever. https://t.co/uKhA38L3l3
