IRV WEINSTEIN, a BUFFALO television icon for decades as news anchor at ABC affiliate WKBW-TV, died TUESDAY (12/27) in CALIFORNIA at 87. WEINSTEIN had been battling Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (LOU GEHRIG's Disease).
WEINSTEIN began his broadcasting career as an actor on WHAM-A/ROCHESTER, working at several TV stations in the 1950s before joining WKBW-A/BUFFALO as a news anchor in 1958. He moved to then-sister WKBW-TV in 1964 as News Director and anchor, becoming an institution in the market through his 1998 retirement.
