PROMETHEUS RADIO PROJECT and MEDIA MOBILIZING PROJECT's lawsuit challenging the FCC's move in the latest quadrennial ownership rule review to eliminate the newspaper-broadcast and radio-TV cross-ownership prohibitions and revise other ownership regulations has drawn a motion to intervene from the NAB.
The suit in U.S. District Court for the Third Circuit seeks to stay and ultimately reverse the Commission's action and contends that the Commission did not comply with the court's remand in previous PROMETHEUS appeals. The NAB filed its motion YESTERDAY (1/25), citing possible adverse effects on its members if the rule changes are stayed or blocked, saying, "Granting the relief requested by Petitioners in these cases would impair our members’ ability to compete effectively and provide quality local service in today’s media marketplace."
