NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO has reassigned WNYC NEWS and WNYC STUDIOS Chief Content Officer DEAN CAPPELLO to an "advisory role" to President/CEO LAURA WALKER and will no longer have any employees reporting directly to him.
The move to remove CAPPELLO from overseeing the news and production operations comes in the wake of the controversy regarding harassment and inappropriate conduct allegations against former hosts JOHN HOCKENBERRY, LEONARD LOPATE, and JONATHAN SCHWARTZ, and the station's response to them. The move also includes separation of the management of the news division and WNYC STUDIOS.
In addition, NYPR has hired law firm PROSKAUER ROSE to conduct an investigation of the company's workplace conduct, and PBS Public Editor and former NPR Executive Editor of News MADHULIKA SIKKA is reviewing editorial content and structure as well as working on LOPATE's replacement for middays on News-Talk WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK.
