RHODE ISLAND's Attorney General has closed the state's investigation of BOSTON UNIVERSITY's operation of noncommercial WRNI-A/PROVIDENCE and WXNI-A/WESTERLY, RI.
AG PATRICK LYNCH announced the end of the inquiry MONDAY, noting that BU had appointed a full-time local GM and local advisory board. The probe was launched after BU had announced in 2004 that it would seek a buyer for the stations, shocking local donors and listeners who feared that the stations would be converted to commercial operation. BU decided not to sell the stations in 2005.
