The DURHAM, NC City Council has unanimously approved CAPITOL BROADCASTING's purchase of naming rights to the plaza outside the city's downtown performing arts center.
CAPITOL, which is paying $300,000 a year for 20 years for the rights, will name the plaza after itself or one of its divisions, which include AC WRAL (MIX 101.5) and Country WCMC/RALEIGH, CBS affiliate WRAL-TV, FOX affiliate WRAZ-TV (FOX 50), NORTH CAROLINA NEWS NETWORK, the minor league baseball DURHAM BULLS, and other interests.
The deal could terminate after 13 years should CAPITOL's ballpark lease with the city for the BULLS expire.
