DENNIS EDWARDS, former MOTOWN artist and member of THE TEMPTATIONS, recently died (2/1) in a CHICAGO hospital. He was 74.
The lead singer replaced founding member DAVID RUFFIN in 1968. During his tenure, the group won GRAMMY AWARDS for “Cloud Nine” and “Papa Was A Rolling Stone.” The group also received a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY in 2013.
After leaving THE TEMPTATIONS, he stayed on with MOTOWN as a solo and had success in 1984 with “Don’t Look Any Further.” EDWARDS would later rejoin the group for a time during which THE TEMPTATIONS were inducted into THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME in 1989.
As we learn more, ALL ACCESS will pass along the details of services planned.
