The WJPZ/SYRACUSE Alumni Association, which unites alumni of the SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY student-operated radio station, will hold its 33rd Annual Birthday Banquet on SATURDAY MARCH 3rd at the SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY SHERATON on campus.
Nearly 100 alumni and students will attend the evening celebration, which marks the 33rd year of WJPZ on the FM band. MARCONI AWARD-winning broadcaster and comedian JUBAL FLAGG, syndicated out of KQMV/SEATTLE, will be the keynote speaker. STEPHEN DONOVAN (’95), morning host at WWLI/PROVIDENCE will emcee the event.
Also during the Banquet weekend, the WJPZ Alumni Association will induct its tenth class into the WJPZ Hall of Fame. 2018 inductees are:- HENRY FERRY (’91), now Pres./Co-Founder, MILLION DOLLAR MEDIA. As as student leader at WJPZ, FERRY oversaw the station’s all time greatest year of financial and ratings success as its General Manager. At its peak, the station captured a 8.9 share 12+ and a 34 share female 18-34.
- CHRIS MOSSMAN (’86), now GM/RVP at WKYT-TV/LEXINGTON. As a student leader at the station, MOSSMAN was the first-ever voice to appear on WJPZ as the station signed on the air on JANUARY 30, 1985. He was instrumental in moving the station to FM and as General Manager, implemented the station’s sponsorship model.
“Even as the radio business changes, WJPZ continues to be known throughout the industry as The Greatest Media Classroom. Once again, this weekend brings together students, alumni, and leaders in the industry to prove why the station is one-of-a-kind in the nation,” said KEVIN RICH (‘07), President of the WJPZ Alumni Association and Dir./Sales for TOWNSQUARE MEDIA/ALBANY.
