THE ROOTS and LIVE NATION URBAN have teamed up to present the 11th annual “Roots Picnic” JUNE 2nd at FESTIVAL PIER in PHILADELPHIA.
THE ROOTS will headline the proceedings with a very special “Jam Session” hosted by DAVE CHAPPELLE, with a set accompanied by surprise guests. The legendary comic and the band previously performed at a string of sold-out RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL shows together last year.
In addition to performances from superstars such as LIL UZI VERT, DIRTY PROJECTORS, THE DIPLOMATS, 2 CHAINZ, DVSN and BRANDY, the day will include BLACK THOUGHT’s Live Mixtape feat. FABOLOUS and JADAKISS, while DJ DRAMA presents GANGSTA GRILLZ with special guests.
The festival, which is produced by ROOTS founding members, AHMIR “QUESTLOVE” THOMPSON and TARIK “BLACK THOUGHT” TROTTER along with SHAWN GEE, ROOTS manager and President of LIVE NATION URBAN, follows another sell-out for LIVE NATION URBAN with the 2018 BROCCOLI CITY FESTIVAL in WASHINGTON, DC.Tickets will be available beginning FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16th at 12p (ET). Commented SHAWN GEE, “This year we’ve tried to vary the non-musical elements of the lineup. We see so many homogenous festival lineups, and we’ve always prided ourselves on trying to create unique moments for the ROOTS PICNIC attendee that they can’t see anywhere else. The ROOTS' headline collaborative set is always unique, and in addition we are very bullish on the podcast space, so we’ve decided to dedicate and program an entire stage with some of the best culturally relevant podcasts."
