New Land Acquires Backroads; Will Form New Label

CALABASAS, CA-based NEW LAND MUSIC has signed a definitive agreement to acquire CORTE MADERA, CA-based independent music distributor BACKROADS MUSIC, which specializes in ambient, world, chill out, new age, electronic, Native American, contemporary instrumental and vocal and chant music. BACKROADS will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of NEW LAND, with BACKROADS founder LLOYD BARDE continuing to handle distribution as Sales Manager.

The first addition to BACKROADS under the new distribution structure will be TINA MALIA's "Silent Awakening." NEW LAND is also preparing to launch its own independent record label after the first of the year, with the first release set to be the "Woodsongs" acoustic-guitar compilation.
Besides WERNER, NEW LAND's executive roster includes CEO KELVYN EVANS, Exec. VP WILL ACKERMAN and Sr. VP/CFO GIULIO PROIETTO. "NEW LAND MUSIC's strategy is to become a role model among independent record labels and to pioneer a music industry business model that is fair and equitable for artists and consumers," EVANS said. "We want to provide good music from good citizens, and we hope to play an integral part in helping transform the industry. Music we love will be our genre."
