NICK CLARKE, host of BBC RADIO 4 "THE WORLD AT ONE," died FRIDAY (11/24) after a battle with cancer at 58.
CLARKE hosted the network's flagship political news program starting in FEBRUARY 1994, with a nine-month break to deal with a soft tissue sarcoma that ended this SUMMER. He joined the BBC in 1973 as a MANCHESTER-based reporter, later moving to TV as a correspondent on the NINE O'CLOCK NEWS, "THE MONEY PROGRAMME," and "NEWSNIGHT" before heading for RADIO 4 in 1989 as host of "THE WORLD THIS WEEKEND."
He had returned to "THE WORLD AT ONE" in AUGUST after the amputation of his leg.
