Radio Shows, Podcasts Among 2018 James Beard Award Nominees

The 2018 JAMES BEARD Awards nominees for contributions to AMERICA's food culture have been announced by the JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION, and among the media nominees are three podcasts (one from a radio station) and three radio shows, plus a bonus for a print essay from a radio station's magazine.
The radio nominees are BBC WORLD SERVICE's "THE FOOD CHAIN," hosted by EMILY THOMAS and produced by THOMAS and SIMON TULETT; NPR's "THE LEGACY OF THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA CHINESE," reported by MELISSA BLOCK and produced by ELISSA NADWORNY; and AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA's "THE SPLENDID TABLE" for "EVERY BITE IS PRECIOUSL BUDDHIST COOKING IN JAPAN," reported and produced by ABIGAIL LEONARD.
Podcasts nominated are STITCHER's "THE SPORKFUL" with DAN PASHMAN, GIMLET CREATIVE and BLUE APRON's sponsored content podcast "WHY WE EAT WHAT WE EAT" with CATHY ERWAY, and BONNEVILLE News-Talk KIRO-F/SEATTLE's "YOUR LAST MEAL" with RACHEL BELLE.
And NEVADA PUBLIC RADIO's DESERT COMPANION magazine was nominated in the Personal Essay category for "The Meth Lunches: The Care and Feeding of a Drug Addict,' written by KIM FOSTER. The article is up against FOOD AND WINE MAGAZINE's LISA DONOVAN for “Dear Women: Own Your Stories” and TIFFANY TASTES' TIFFANY LANGSTON for “Strip Clubs, Salvation and SONIC DRIVE-IN.”
Media award winners will be honored on APRIL 27th in NEW YORK, with awards for restaurants and chefs handed out at a CHICAGO event on MAY 7th.
