GREGG "OPIE" HUGHES told viewers of his YouTube channel that he has signed to do a podcast on WESTWOOD ONE's podcast network. The former SIRIUSXM personality and syndicated host made the announcement on a stream on SATURDAY (3/17) while walking in MANHATTAN and complaining about getting a stomach bug just before going on vacation.
Noting that he had posted a photo on Instagram of himself dining with former SIRIUSXM compatriot TIM SABEAN, now at WESTWOOD ONE, OPIE said that SABEAN offered a spot for a podcast and that he has signed a contract "starting off with a podcast, twice a week" with days to be determined but likely MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS starting APRIL 17th, and ultimately building an OPIE RADIO podcast network and a "radio element" to be determined.
OPIE left SIRIUSXM in JULY 2017 after 13 years at the satellite service and predecessor XM RADIO, most of that as part of "OPIE AND ANTHONY" with ANTHONY CUMIA and JIM NORTON. He previously worked solo at WCMF/ROCHESTER, WUFX/BUFFALO, and WBAB/LONG ISLAND before teaming with CUMIA at WAAF/BOSTON, WNEW/NEW YORK, and in syndication for CBS RADIO.
