It's time once again for CBS Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA's 15th annual "WING BOWL" wing-eating orgy to start the search for contestants, and the station's theme this year will be "PHILADELPHIA vs. the World," pitting 20 locals against five "professional eaters" from the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF COMPETITIVE EATERS."
The new format is a response, says morning man ANGELO CATALDI, to last year's event, in which the top two slots were held by out-of-towners. "We need someone from the PHILADELPHIA area to kick the big, fat butts of the national guys who have infiltrated our party," CATALDI said.
Also on tap this year is the sad task of announcing the new "WING BOWL" commissioner due to the death in JUNE of former NATIONAL LEAGUE umpire ERIC GREGG. The new commissioner will be named on DECEMBER 4, and a tribute to GREGG is planned for this year's event.
Tickets for the popular event will go on sale DECEMBER 4. The "BOWL," which quickly sells out every year, will he held again at the 20,000-seat WACHOVIA CENTER, home of the FLYERS and SIXERS.
