'Banda' Singer Valentin Elizalde Killed

Mexican "banda" singer VALENTIN ELIZALDE; his manager, MARIO MENDOZA; and his driver, RAYMUNDO BALLESTEROS were fatally shot on SATURDAY (11/25) shortly after a performance in REYNOSA, MEXICO, near McALLEN, TX, when their van was ambushed by attackers.

There are currently no details or motive surrounding the deaths, but thousands of fans turned out yesterday to await the arrival ELIZALDE's body at the airport and watch it be escorted by police to his hometown of JITONHUECA.

ELIZALDE was born in 1979 and was known as "EL GALLO," or "THE ROOSTER." Among his biggest hits were "Vete Ya," "Ebrio de Amor" and "Soy Asi."
