NAB Show Panel To Look At Broadcasters' Coverage Of Las Vegas Mass Shooting

BEASLEY Classic Hits KKLZ/LAS VEGAS morning host CARLA RAE will moderate a 2018 NAB SHOW panel on news coverage of the LAS VEGAS mass shooting.
The panel, “Crisis on the Strip: Reporting in an Unfolding Emergency,” to be held APRIL 10th at 1:30p (PT), will feature LAS VEGAS PD Sheriff JOSEPH LOMBARDO, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY NEWHOUSE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS Associate Professor HUB BROWN, FOX affiliate KVVU-TV (FOX 5)/LAS VEGAS VP/GM TODD BROWN, and CBS affiliate KLAS-TV/LAS VEGAS reporter PATRICK WALKER, discussing how broadcasters covered the OCTOBER 1st incident and worked with first responders to get accurate information to the public. FCC Commissioner BRENDAN CARR will open the panel with some brief remarks.
“Local broadcasters fully embrace our responsibility as ‘first informers’ during times of crisis, partnering with first responders to provide critical information that keep the public out of harm’s way,” said NAB EVP/Communications DENNIS WHARTON. “This panel offers broadcasters the chance to hear firsthand the critical lessons learned from this tragedy and how we can adapt to best serve our communities.”
