WESTWOOD ONE's new Classic Rock 24/7 format "CLASSIC ROCK X" has launched on charter affiliate FOREVER MEDIA Classic Rock WRQY (ROCKY 96.5)/MOUNDSVILLE-WHEELING, WV. The station flipped from an Active Rock-Sports hybrid to the new format, developed by WESTWOOD ONE in conjunction with FOREVER, on MARCH 26th.
FOREVER intends to use the format, which emphasizes the harder edge of Classic Rock like AC/DC, DEF LEPPARD, and GUNS N' ROSES ("Classic Rock that really rocks") and is positioned between WWO's existing Classic Rock and Rock 2.0 formats, in more markets while WESTWOOD ONE markets it to the rest of the country as a WESTWOOD ONE Local format, customizable with local material via the STORQ2 platform.
“We were excited by the opportunity to work with WESTWOOD ONE to help develop a Classic Rock format for the ‘X’ generation to include more 80s rock titles and to create a format with energy,” said FOREVER MEDIA VP/Programming JIM SHIELDS. “This format fills a void that radio can now offer to rock audiences aged 35 to 53 years old.”
“CLASSIC ROCK X is a great example of how we can launch a uniquely prescribed format that meets the marketplace’s specifications, in short order,” added WESTWOOD ONE President of Programming KIRK STIRLAND. “With our strong, proven infrastructure and staffing, we’re able to convert our customers’ desires into winning products, smoothly and efficiently.
