ENTERCOM Country WUSY (US101)/CHATTANOOGA MD/afternoon personality and COUNTRY RADIO HALL OF FAMER BILL "DEX" POINDEXTER is retiring, effective today (4/26).
POINDEXTER made his plans public on his FACEBOOK page this morning, sharing, "I have always had a very deep love for radio since I was just a kid growing up in ROSSVILLE, GA, and that love still burns inside me. I have had the best of times, and the worst, lots of laughs, and just as many tears. Living through the grief of losing DAVID EARL, BEARMAN, JACK COLE, and my sweet wife, SHELIA CAMPBELL POINDEXTER, took its toll on me mentally, but I have learned how [to] take those memories and think of the times that we all spent together and the crazy times we had. I guess you could say that I have found my smile thanks to my children, my grandchildren, and ROSA SHELL POINDEXTER. I will miss my US-101 family and the times when we were out of the studio with our listeners. As I close this chapter of my life, I am looking foreword to the next. I don’t think the LORD is through with me yet. You have my thoughts and prayers, and I hope you will keep me in yours. GOD bless. I’m DEX, and I’m done."
POINDEXTER joined WUSY in 1993 following a stint in record promotion with ABC, UNITED ARTISTS, and RCA. It was a return to his radio career, which began at WFLI/CHATTANOOGA. During his time with WUSY, POINDEXTER, along with afternoon drive partner MELISSA "MO" TURNER, have been honored with five CMA and two ACM Awards for Small Market Personality Of The Year. "DEX has impacted the careers of countless Country artists over the years, and there has been an outpouring of support from artists and listeners," said ENTERCOM/CHATTANOOGA SVP/Programming JUSTIN COLE. "Super stars like LUKE BRYAN, JASON ALDEAN, and GARTH BROOKS have called and sent videos to congratulate DEX. [He] was an integral part of making US101 the [number one] station in CHATTANOOGA, and he has an open invitation to come sit in on the show anytime. While we are going to miss having him in the building, we wish him all of the best in this next chapter." A public celebration and thank your for DEX will be conducted on-air at US101 and online here.
