Longtime CBS Sports KMOX-A/ST. LOUIS Sports Director RON JACOBER is retiring effective JANUARY 1. JACOBER, who will continue with the station on a parttime basis, has been with KMOX for 20 years and in ST. LOUIS radio and TV sports for 37 years. TOM ACKERMAN will take over JACOBER's sports anchor and morning show duties.
"What I’m really retiring from is getting up at 3:30 in the morning, something I’ve been doing for about 10 years," JACOBER said. "I will continue to host 'Sports on a SUNDAY Morning' and appear on selected 'Sports Open Lines' shows, plus work vacations for TOM ACKERMAN and KEVIN WHEELER. I’m thrilled that GM DAVE ERVIN and PD STEVE MOORE want me to continue to be associated with the station that has been such a big part of my life. It’s been a privilege to be the Sports Director of KMOX."
MOORE added, "The names that have worked in the KMOX Sports Department are legendary -- [JACK] BUCK, [DAN] DIERDORF, [BOB] COSTAS, and [DAN] KELLY, just to name a few. RON JACOBER's name rightly fits alongside those gentlemen. We are pleased that we were able to create a situation that allows him to continue to be a part of the sports team and still enjoy a quality of life that doesn’t include waking up daily at 3:30a."
