According to BRIDGE RATINGS' latest satellite radio update, satellite radio was not one of the popular retail items over the long holiday retail sales weekend. By BRIDGE's estimates, retail sales of satellite radio systems were stronger this past weekend compared to earlier weeks this fall, but were down 31.5% from THANKSGIVING weekend 2005.
"Though we anticipate retail improving comparatively over the next several weeks, year-over-year retail will likely fall very short of 2005's final results, and we maintain our estimates that the sector will be off between 23%-25% for fourth quarter sales this year," the company says.
What's more, while HOWARD STERN influenced 52% of subscriptions to SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO from OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2005, BRIDGE found that of recent subscriptions, only 14% subscribed because of STERN last week and only 10% did so this week. The OCTOBER-NOVEMBER average is 17%.
