ALL ACCESS extends sympathies to family, friends, and former colleagues of D.J. FONTANA, the longtime drummer for ELVIS PRESLEY. FONTANA passed away in NASHVILLE on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13th at the age of 87.
FONTANA played drums on more than 450 of PRESLEY's recordings and toured with him for 14 years; he was the last surviving member of PRESLEY's original band. FONTANA also appeared in several of PRESLEY's movies throughout the 1960s and went on to back other artists including DOLLY PARTON, WAYLON JENNINGS, CHARLEY PRIDE, PORTER WAGONER, JOHNNY CASH, WEBB PIERCE, FARON YOUNG, RINGO STARR, KEITH RICHARDS, PAUL MCCARTNEY, and more. Funeral arrangements are currently pending.
