WESTWOOD ONE has taken a dive into EDISON RESEARCH's Share of Ear report for first quarter 2018, and in a blog post by Dir. of Content Marketing LAUREN VETRANO at the WWO website, the syndicator is pointing to radio's continued dominance of audio listening as a key takeaway from the quarterly report.

Combining Share of Ear figures for the last four quarters, AM/FM radio is shown to occupy 47% of audio time spent among persons 18+, followed by 12% for owned music, 9% with music video on YouTube, 5% each with SIRIUSXM's ad-free music channels and TV music channels, 4% each with the ad-supported version of PANDORA or "other," and 3% for podcasts. WESTWOOD ONE's post emphasizes how while AM/FM reach is stable among listeners 18+ (74% in first quarter 2016, 72% in first quarter 2018), PANDORA has lost ground, down 17% in audio time spent in two years (6.4% to 5.3%) while SPOTIFY has grown 36% (3% to 4.1%).
However, podcasting's daily reach is growing, especially among younger audiences, with listening share up 39% in two years to 15.2% among those 18-34 and up 52% to 9.7% in the same period among those 25-54.
