Universal-BMG Publishing Deal Could Face Closer EU Scrutiny

EUROPEAN UNION antitrust regulators plan to launch an in-depth investigation into UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP's planned $2.14 billion acquisition of BMG PUBLISHING, sources tell the WALL STREET JOURNAL. 

EU officials reportedly told UNIVERSAL in BRUSSELS this week that they are concerned the deal could potentially create a monopoly. The deal was cleared in the U.S. on NOVEMBER 14 (NET NEWS 11/15).
