The stations formerly owned by CHOICE RADIO KEYS CORPORATION -- News-Talk WFFG-A and Classic Hits WGMX (MIX 94.3)/MARATHON, FL, Classic Hits WKEZ-F (MIX 96.9)/TAVERNIER, FL, and Classic Hits WKEY-F (MIX 93.7)/KEY WEST, FL -- are being offered for sale after being assigned to PHILIP J. VON KAHLE of MICHAEL MOECKER AND ASSOCIATES, INC. in an involuntary proceeding under FLORIDA state law similar to the federal Chapter 7 bankruptcy filed in MAY.
The three FM stations each cover about a third of the FLORIDA KEYS (WKEZ serves the Upper KEYS, WGMX the Middle KEYS, and WKEY the Lower KEYS) and include licenses and authorizations, broadcast equipment, programming delivered over IP STLs with COMREX Access, BricLinks, and BARIX boxes, and related intellectual property including websites, but no real estate or studio space is included (although leases for towers and equipment spaces are "likely," according to the release accompanying the sale announcement.
“We’re expecting strong interest from buyers due to the stability, attractive weather and highly desirable demographic of the FLORIDA KEYS market,” said VON KAHLE. “The KEYS’ year round population includes full time residents, winter visitors, and tourists most of whom travel through the KEYS by car and listen to the radio.”
