The COUNCIL ON AMERICAN-ISLAMIC RELATIONS is demanding the removal of SALEM syndicated host DENNIS PRAGER from the U.S. HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL COUNCIL because he criticized Rep. KEITH ELLISON (D-MN), a Muslim, for insisting on being sworn into Congress using the Qur'an rather than a Bible.
PRAGER, in a column published online on NOVEMBER 28, said that ELLISON should not be sworn into Congress if he would not take the oath on a Bible as do all other members of Congress. CAIR, in a letter by Exec. Dir. NIHAD ASWAD to Council Chairman FRED ZEIDMAN, said, "No one who holds such bigoted, intolerant and divisive views should be in a policymaking position at a taxpayer-funded institution that seeks to educate Americans about the destructive impact hatred has had, and continues to have, on every society."
The ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE has also criticized PRAGER's comments, calling him "flat-out wrong" and noting that the official oath is done in the House chambers without a Bible, and that the Bible is used in unofficial private ceremonies at the option of the member of Congress.
