If you visit NASHVILLE even once a year for, say, COUNTRY RADIO SEMINAR (CRS), you've probably commented on the explosive growth and modernization the city has undergone during the past 10 years or so. Not all of that growth has been welcome, particularly on NASHVILLE's famous MUSIC ROW, where 56 historic buildings have come tumbling down since 2000, in favor of mixed use developments. A high-profile near-miss for demolition occurred in 2014, when iconic RCA STUDIO A was preserved last-minute. It still stands today as a working, busy recording studio, operated by noted producer DAVE COBB.
The NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND HISTORIC NASHVILLE is holding a rally tomorrow (7/24) to raise awareness of the continued threats to MUSIC ROW, which the NATIONAL TRUST designated a "National Treasure" in 2014. The rally is set for 4:30-7:30p (CT) at famed MUSIC ROW watering hole BOBBY'S IDLE HOUR, one of five properties currently targeted for demolition. "We can’t just sit back and let NASHVILLE’s unique history be destroyed and its present-day musical culture lost," said NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Sr. Field Officer CAROLYN BRACKETT. "There are practical solutions that would balance development with the preservation of MUSIC ROW's historic fabric and retain the music businesses that fill them. We urge [NASHVILLE] Mayor BRILEY and Metro NASHVILLE leaders to adopt them before it’s too late." More information on the rally here.
