The RESULTS RADIO LLC/REDDING, CA cluster has resumed normal programming after airing emergency information throughout the CARR FIRE, which is now 67% contained and has consumed 211,038 acres to the west of REDDING.
Four of the five RESULTS RADIO stations in the market -- Country KNCQ (Q97), Top 40/Rhythmic KEWB (POWER 94.7), Classic Rock KHRD (RED 103.1), and Adult Hits KESR (107.1 BOB-FM) -- lost their mountain-top transmitter sites and had to broadcast using 300-watt emergency transmitters from a 106-foot portable tower borrowed from EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION/SACRAMENTO headquarters and erected in the studio parking lot, while Sports KKXS (XS SPORTS 96.1), the tower site for which is east of the city, remained on the air from its normal facilities.
Over this weekend, RESULTS CTO RON CASTRO and Chief Engineer TOM MORRIS went up to the SOUTH FORK MOUNTAIN tower site with ANDY FORBES TECHNOLOGIES, a crew from STEVE WILDE's SWE SERVICES, and AMERICAN AMPLIFIER TECHNOLOGIES LLC to get the four stations back on the air from the mountaintop using a diesel generator; Q97, which normally transmits from SHASTA BALLY, is using its auxiliary antenna at SOUTH FORK for now.
Staffers from all five stations worked in six-hour shifts to provide 24/7 live coverage from a single control room on all five signals and streaming. The staffers on duty included Q97's BILLY PILGRIM and PATRICK JOHN, RICK HEALY, LOGAN KANE, RED 103.1’s DAVE TAPPAN and RYAN O’BRIEN, POWER 94.7’s JEFF HABER, and cluster Promotion Director OLIVIA HENDERSON. The stations are running a community fundraising campaign, "Rebound. Recover," to collect cash donations, joined by sister stations in CHICO, YUBA CITY, and SACRAMENTO.
Market Manager BETH TAPPAN said, “Losing four out of five radio stations at one time, being personally evacuated, and hearing horrible stories of loss from close friends was almost too much to bear. I’m so thankful for our hardworking professionals for stepping up and being there for our community. They worked tirelessly around the clock to bring the NORTH STATE much needed news and information and they did it because they care. REDDING will rebound and rebuild, and RESULTS RADIO will be there every step of the way!”
CEO/Pres. JACK FRITZ said, “REDDING local broadcasters did a wonderful job in responding to the emergency. The accomplishments of our RESULTS air staff and engineering teams are especially heroic. Their families, friends, and all of us can be so very proud of their commitment to serving REDDING and all of SHASTA COUNTY.”
