Corporation For Public Broadcasting Awards Grants To 3 Stations To Develop Urban Alternative Format

The CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING is granting a total of $1.3 million to three radio stations -- PRAIRIE VIEW A&M Jazz-Variety KPVU/PRAIRIE VIEW, TX, NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY Urban WNSB (HOT 91)/NORFOLK, and ROCKY MOUNTAIN PUBLIC MEDIA Jazz KUVO/DENVER and its PBS affiliate KRMA-TV, KUVO's HD multicast channels, and DENVER OPEN MEDIA LPFM KOMF-LP -- to develop the Urban Alternative format over two years, working with PARAGON MEDIA STRATEGIES, which will conduct music tests. The format first appeared on CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA's WBEW-W216CL (VOCALO)/CHICAGO.
“CPB is committed to partnering with stations to develop innovative ways to expand and grow the next generation of public media audiences,” said CPB VP for Radio ERIKA PULLEY-HAYES. “The Urban Alternative format is a way for stations to capitalize on the growing appeal of this art form and build new connections with musicians and millennials in their local communities.”
