WESTWOOD ONE has issued a reminder to all major commercial broadcast radio stations in the U.S. to register their existing C Band downlinks with the FCC by the deadline of OCTOBER 17th, before the Commission evaluates the 3.7-4.2 Ghz C Band for additional mobile broadband data services, which could cause "insurmountable interference" to signals from the satellites serving radio with syndicated programming.
During this filing window, the FCC has waived the Frequency Coordination Study fee of $1,500 and is only requiring a $435 filing fee; WESTWOOD ONE warns that the Commission may reinstate the $1,500 fee once the deadline passes and notes that SES, WESTWOOD ONE's satellite provider, has set aside a funding pool to cover the $435 fee for stations demonstrating a hardship, with more information available directly from SES at FCCregistration@ses.com or (609) 987-4300.
“The FCC has stated that in order to receive any interference consideration, your station must be registered,” said WWO SVP/Technology and Operations ERIC WILER. “With SES making a fund available to assist broadcasters, the expense hardship can be removed.”
