ED SCHULTZ didn't make his planned debut on AMERICAN FORCES NETWORK RADIO on MONDAY (10/17), and SCHULTZ thinks it was because he said on the air that the PENTAGON had coached troops before a teleconference with President BUSH last week.
JONES RADIO, SCHULTZ' syndicator, received an e-mail last month from AFN chief MANNY LEVY that said AFN would carry the first hour of SCHULTZ' show, but the PENTAGON says that LEVY jumped the gun and no decision had been made.
SCHULTZ's show received a call from PENTAGON Deputy Asst. Sec'y for Internal Communications ANDREA BARBER, who SCHULTZ criticized for the alleged coaching, calling the start of the show on AFN off. SCHULTZ and his supporters had campaigned to get his show on the air at AFN to provide balance to RUSH LIMBAUGH; AFN also carries NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO talk programming.
