RADAR Gets Improved Spot Confirmation System

ARBITRON has announced it will be enhancing the RADAR network radio service with an all-electronic Spot Confirmation service. The all-electronic service will replace the manual taping system. The improved electronic service will include a 10% increase in the number of stations monitored. The number of broadcast hours will increase 47% from 6,000 to 8,800 hours.

The new Spot Confirmation service will also deliver quarterly reports of how well the commercial affidavits provided to the networks by affiliated stations correspond to the actual broadcast of network spots with a 12-month rolling result. Previously the reports were delivered on an annual basis.

In 2007, we will completely retire the manual monitoring system that had been the mainstay of RADAR affidavit verification service since 1974.

ARBITRON VP/Nat'l Radio Sales BRUCE SUPOVITZ explains, "Confirming the affidavits that are used by RADAR networks has always been an important element in the overall accountability of network radio. By completing our transition to all-electronic monitoring, we are able to devise the most comprehensive spot-verification system ever used in the RADAR network radio ratings service. We began the transition to all-electronic monitoring with a MARCH 2004 agreement with MEDIAGUIDE. In 2007, we will completely retire the manual monitoring system that had been the mainstay of RADAR affidavit verification service since 1974."
