'I'll Name The Dogs' Grabs Top 'Nashville Songwriter Awards' Prize

NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL (NSAI) presented the inaugural "NASHVILLE SONGWRITER AWARDS" last night (9/19) at the historic RYMAN AUDITORIUM, an evening honoring great songwriting and featuring performances by BLAKE SHELTON, THOMAS RHETT, JAMEY JOHNSON, CHRIS JANSON, LANCO, KIP MOORE, DARIUS RUCKER, and others (NET NEWS 8/6).
Song Of The Year honors went to "I'll Name The Dogs," penned by MATT DRAGSTREAM, BEN HAYSLIP, and JOSH THOMPSON. ASHLEY GORLEY was honored as Songwriter Of The Year; LANCO's BRANDON LANCASTER took home Songwriter/Artist Of The Year honors. The legendary BILL ANDERSON received the KRIS KRISTOFFERSON Lifetime Achievement Award. Ten of the year's biggest hits were designated with a "TEN SONGS I WISH I'D WRITTEN" award.
"The first ever 'NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS AWARDS' was a joyous celebration of songwriters, stars, and the real stars of the show, the songs," said NSAI Board President STEVE BOGARD. "It was a great evening of great writers with the great artists they write for and with, a whirlwind of music and moments honoring our champions, our heroes and the best songwriters among us."
