INTEREP today (12/7) announced it has discontinued the national representation of CUMULUS MEDIA PARTNERS' stations, which purchased from SUSQUEHANNA earlier this year (NET NEWS 5/5). CUMULUS MAJOR MARKET SALES, formerly known as SUSQUEHANNA RADIO SALES, was a dedicated rep firm under the INTEREP umbrella. CUMULUS' other stations are repped by KATZ.
CUMULUS MAJOR MARKET SALES Pres. MIKE WALSH said, "CUMULUS' decision to move its stations from INTEREP was not based on performance, but rather on its desire to have all of its stations under one rep firm. The INTEREP sales team consistently met expectations for the CUMULUS stations. I am extremely proud of the job that we did for them and cannot say enough about the performance of my team."

INTEREP Chairman/CEO RALPH GUILD said, "CUMULUS was made an offer that it could not refuse. Radio has been in a period of steady decline for years, with the exception of a slight political bump this fall, because there seems to be a belief that it is possible to cut costs and grow our industry simultaneously. This belief exists despite the fact that evidence seems to prove it contradictory."
