HANK GREENWALD, the radio voice of the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS and several other teams over a long and storied career behind the mic, died MONDAY (10/22) of complications of heart and kidney disease at 83.
GREENWALD began his career in VINELAND, NJ after graduating SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY and called SYRACUSE sports and SYRACUSE NATIONALS NBA basketball, moving on to HAWAII ISLANDERS minor league baseball games in 1965 and an eight-year stint calling SAN FRANCISCO/GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS basketball. GREENWALD became the radio voice of the GIANTS in 1979 through 1986, leaving to join the NEW YORK YANKEES broadcast crew for two seasons. He returned to the GIANTS in 1989 through 1996. After retiring from the GIANTS, GREENWALD worked national games for CBS RADIO and called OAKLAND A'S television broadcasts in 2004-05.
