ALL ACCESS is sad to pass along the news that one of radio's great PDs ... LARRY BERGER, passed away LAST MONTH (9/25). He leaves behind his wife, CHISATO, and sister BONNIE.
BERGER had a long list of accomplishments, including programming KSOL/SAN FRANCISCO, KIOI/SAN FRANCISCO, ABC, WRIF/DETROIT and more, but is best remembered for his time at WPLJ/NEW YORK.
iHEARTMEDIA Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/NEW YORK night personality CAROL MILLER, who worked with BERGER at WPLJ/NEW YORK, told ALL ACCESS, "I just spoke LARRY’s wife, and sister, and they asked me to say to you for publication that LARRY passed away on SEPTEMBER 25th, after a month-long illness, resulting in complications from surgery. You know all of LARRY’s accomplishments – and he remained a dear friend for all these years after my time at WPLJ during the ‘NEW YORK’s Best ROCK’ era. LARRY was my mentor – and really, responsible for my career. This is just so very sad."
iHEARTMEDIA Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/NEW YORK morning man JIM KERR, who woke up THE BIG APPLE on WPLJ in the BERGER era, summed up, "There was never a better PD. There was never a better friend."
Many of BERGER's friends have posted their feelings to his FACEBOOK page here.
