The NEW YORK YANKEES will buck a CBS RADIO trend and renew with CBS News WCBS-A/NEW YORK in a $70 million, five-year deal, according to the NEW YORK POST. The deal represents a 17% increase but falls short of the BOSTON RED SOX's new deal with ENTERCOM's WRKO-A/BOSTON.
The POST also reports that the rumored move of CBS Talk WTIC-A/HARTFORD, long a RED SOX affiliate, to the YANKEES network will not take place, with the station opting to remain with the SOX. CBS will retain Spanish-language radio rights in the deal; it bought time on crosstown Spanish Talk WADO-A/NEW YORK to air the games last season.
CBS RADIO has dropped long-standing baseball rights deals in ST. LOUIS, MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL and PITTSBURGH in the last year.
