SEAN HANNITY's about-face on appearing on stage with President TRUMP at a rally in CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO last night (NET NEWS 11/5) has resulted in the FOX NEWS CHANNEL and PREMIERE NETWORKS host claiming that the appearance was not planned and FOX NEWS issuing a statement calling the appearance an "unfortunate distraction."
After the TRUMP campaign announced that HANNITY would appear at the rally as a "special guest" and HANNITY, after criticism from many quarters, tweeted that he would only be doing his show and an interview with TRUMP from the rally and "will not be on stage campaigning with the President," HANNITY did go on stage and proceeded to call the assembled media in the room "fake news."
In a tweet TODAY (11/6), HANNITY insisted that "What I said in my tweet yesterday was 100% truthful. When the POTUS invited me on stage to give a few remarks last night, I was surprised, yet honored by the president’s request. This was NOT planned." And as for insulting the news media, he backtracked only in reference to his FOX NEWS colleagues, tweeting, "To be clear, I was not referring to my journalist colleagues at FOX NEWS in those remarks. They do amazing work day in and day out in a fair and balanced way and It is an honor to work with such great professionals."
FOX NEWS issued its own tweet saying, "FOX NEWS does not condone any talent participating in campaign events. We have an extraordinary team of journalists helming our coverage tonight and we are extremely proud of their work. This was an unfortunate distraction and has been addressed." The network did not disclose what, if any, discipline would be directed towards HANNITY or another network host, Judge JEANINE PIRRO, for participating in the pro-TRUMP rally.
