Brett Young, Lee Ann Womack Among ASCAP Country Awards Winners

A mix of music and awards highlighted the “56TH ANNUAL ASCAP COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS,” held in downtown NASHVILLE on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12th. ASHLEY GORLEY was named Songwriter Of The Year for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time overall. BRETT YOUNG received the Songwriter-Artist Award for his two chart-topping hits, and WARNER/CHAPPELL MUSIC PUBLISHING was named Publisher Of The Year for publishing 19 of the year’s most-performed Country hits. It was the company's sixth consecutive win. SAM HUNT’s smash, “Body Like A Back Road,” was named Song Of The Year. HUNT was joined in a performance of the song by fellow songwriters, ZACH CROWELL and JOSH OSBORNE.
LEE ANN WOMACK was awarded the ASCAP Golden Note Award, but first was honored in song with tribute performances from CHRIS STAPLETON (“Either Way”); BUDDY MILLER (“Don’t Tell Me”); and ALISON KRAUSS (“A Little Past Little Rock”). The night’s other performers included TRACE ADKINS (“What Ifs”); THE CADILLAC THREE ("Hard Out Here For A Country Boy”); and DUSTIN LYNCH with songwriters BEN HAYSLIP, RHETT AKINS, and KYLE FISHMAN (“Small Town Boy”).
