The COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) presented the 2018 CMA Media Achievement Award to BILLBOARD contributor TOM ROLAND backstage at the “52ND ANNUAL CMA AWARDS” in NASHVILLE on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th. COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME member BILL ANDERSON was on hand to make the surprise presentation, telling the assembled journalists, “Even the pros look to TOM ROLAND. He’s one of Country music’s bedrock authorities.” Said ROLAND in his acceptance speech, “At every significant juncture in my life, some song was there to act as comfort, to punctuate the joy, or to assure me that I wasn't entirely alone. Music is really important, and to get an award for simply trying to convey little pieces of how it works—or how it's made and marketed—is awesome. And, surprisingly meaningful.”
In addition to authoring and editing the weekly BILLBOARD COUNTRY UPDATE publication, ROLAND is the owner and curator of ROLANDNOTE.COM, a Country music database with more than 60,000 entries detailing the format’s history. He has been writing about Country for more than 35 years. CMA Media Achievement Award winners are selected by CMA member publicists.
