Controversial on-air host JAZ McKAY may be returning to the air full-time soon. 23NEWS ABC/BAKERSFIELD reports that AMERICAN GENERAL MEDIA Talk KERN-A/BAKERSFIELD will put McKAY -- who has been doing fill-in -- into 10a-noon weekdays. Starting date has yet to be announced, as the station website still has CHRIS PLANTE holding down the spot.
McKAY's reputation succeeds him. Almost a year ago, he was let go from ALPHA MEDIA News-Talk KNZR-A-F/BAKERSFIELD after posting a FACEBOOK LIVE video where he denigrated Spanish-language radio stations, using a racial slur (NET NEWS, 1/25/18). In 2017, the KERN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE investigated him for posting a social media comment threatening gun violence.
AGM Pres. ROGERS BRANDON told the TV station that hiring MCKAY was, "a careful decision that will continue to make KERN Radio a local voice of discourse and debate."
