The applications are in at UK radio regulator OFCOM for the new FM analog license for SOUTH WALES, and the bidders include some familiar names, like GCAP's Alternative XFM and EMAP's Active Rock KERRANG! RADIO. GMG is proposing "VARIETY FM," an Easy Listening station, while CANWEST GLOBAL is applying for AAA ORIGINAL FM, and Welsh regional radio broadcaster TOWN AND COUNTRY RADIO is offering an Easy Listening/Talk/Welsh music hybrid called "SOUTH WALES RADIO." UTV's application is for "ALLTALK FM WALES," and proposals have been filed for a Modern Rock station called "WICKED FM" and a Rock station called "DAVE FM."
The winning bid, to be selected in 2007, will get a station reaching about 1 million listeners, including the CARDIFF area.
