DOUG JOHNSON, the longtime weatherman at NBC affiliate KPRC-TV/HOUSTON, died THURSDAY (1/10) at 79.

JOHNSON, a fixture at the TV station from 1962 to 1994 and one of the market's most popular TV personalities, also hosted a radio show at then-sister KPRC-A in the 1980s.  A TEXAS native, he began his career in radio in ALASKA, working at KBYR-A, KFQD-A, and KHAR-A/ANCHORAGE and KFRB-A/FAIRBANKS before returning to TEXAS to join KPRC-TV in JUNE 1962.
