MERLEFEST -- founded in 1988 in memory of the son (EDDY MERLE WATSON) of the late AMERICAN music legend DOC WATSON – will again return to the campus of WILKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE in WILKESBORO, NC, in the foothills of the BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS, APRIL 25th-28th.
Headliners that have already been announced include THE AVETT BROTHERS, WYNONNA & THE BIG NOISE, KEB’ MO’, AMOS LEE, STEEP CANYON RANGERS, THE DEL MCCOURTY BAND,THE EARLS OF LEICESTER, SAM BUSH, TYLER CHILDERS, BRANDI CARLILE, and PETER ROWAN AND THE FREE MEXICAN AIR FORCE with LOS TEXMANIACS. The LATE NIGHT JAM will be hosted by CHATHAM COUNTY LINE.

Further, applications for the CHRIS AUSTIN SONGWRITING CONTEST are now open with entries accepted through FEBRUARY 1st. Applicants will have their songs heard by some of NASHVILLE’s most prominent music industry professionals, including MERLEFEST host JIM LAUDERDALE. Categories for consideration include bluegrass, general, gospel, and country. The winners will perform at a showcase, and first place winners receive $600. Net proceeds support the WCC CHRIS AUSTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.
