ALPHA MEDIA Country WFLS, News-Talk WNTX-A-W243BS, Top 40 /Rhythmic WVBX (LIVE 99.3), and Classic Rock WWUZ (96.9 THE ROCK)/FREDERICKSBURG, VA are addressing the crisis for federal workers affected by the government shutdown by launching a web page posting lists of businesses in the region offering assistance to the workers, who are not being paid to work during the shutdown.
Many businesses are coming together to help the community during this time in need by providing free or reduced fee meals, services, groceries, and even temporary employment opportunities. The list is growing every few minutes. The community support is one of the main reasons this area is one of the best places to live. The list of services can be found on the station websites and social media pages.
Market Manager BETH VICKERS said, “The WASHINGTON, DC market is severely affected by the furlough. We feel ALPHA MEDIA, FREDERICKSBURG has a duty to provide support and information to government workers and their families during this time.”
WFLS Content Dir. BILL WEST added, “We reached out to our listeners with on-air announcements and social networking to help us create a web page which spotlights area businesses who are offering products and services to government employees and their families. The response from our market has been incredible and that web page list continues to grow."
