ALL ACCESS hears that BROADCAST COMPANY OF THE AMERICAS has let VP/Programming and Operations MIKE SHEPARD go in layoffs at the cluster, which is involved in a battle with the owners of the Mexican station licenses it leases to cover the SAN DIEGO market.
Sports XEPRS-A (MIGHTY 1090) remains on the air, while Sports XEPE-A (ESPN 1700 AM), and Classic Hits XHPRS (105.7 MAX FM) are presently off the air with the station owners replacing the BCA programming with its own temporary programming; MAX is streaming its Classic Hits format online only while the FM has been airing its own music with no commercials or IDs.
ALL ACCESS also hears that eight other staffers were laid off, with details to come.
SHEPARD had overseen programming at the stations since joining the cluster from the crosstown JEFFERSON PILOT (now ENTERCOM) cluster in MAY 2011. He continues to operate his SHEPARD MEDIA RESEARCH firm while also available for new programming opportunities; reach MIKE at (619) 994-7583 or shepardradio@gmail.com.
