ATLANTIC GATEWAY COMMUNICATIONS, INC. Contemporary Christian WGTS/TAKOMA PARK, MD-WASHINGTON, D.C and SOS RADIO NETWORK Contemporary Christian KSOS/LAS VEGAS both celebrated the federal government's reopening this week in unique efforts to help workers who had gone 35 days without a paycheck.
WGTS teamed up with local food bank FOOD FOR OTHERS, VERTICAL WORSHIP BAND and comedian NAZARETH for a one-night event, "FORGET YOUR FURLOUGH SHOW." VERTICAL led worship, NAZARETH provided an hour of comedy and--thanks to FOOD FOR OTHERS, which spent 13 hours collecting food from generous listeners--the WGTS staff was able to hand out over 800 pounds of food to families who needed it.
"WGTS talks a lot about being the hands and heart of CHRIST," said WGTS PD BRENNAN WIMBISH. "I think we're at our best when we're bringing the community together to meet the needs of their neighbors. I think both the show and the food distribution provided a lot of hope for government workers."
Additionally, KSOS, with the help of local high school clubs and business, were able to feed the whole TSA staff at the LAS VEGAS MCCARREN AIRPORT for the entire day on Monday. Flatbeds full of KRISPY KREME Donuts, breakfast sandwiches from TRUFFLES & BACON CAFE, PAPA JOHN'S pizzas and truckloads of beverages and desserts were delivered for all four TSA shifts.
"The heart of our SOS RADIO family is to let our community know that we love and care for their families," said AM host/PD SCOTT HERROLD. "We wanted to celebrate the re-opening of the government with the TSA teammates who kept showing up for work all month without pay!"
